Building a Global Astrotourism Community of Practice Through Astronomy for Development

← Resources Library  |  Community, training & events

A preprint (arXiv 2606.00303, IAU OAD) documenting how a global community of practice in astrotourism was built. It reports who participates and how, presents three practitioner case studies — AstroTribe in India, Starlight Bridges in Greece and AstroDev in South Africa — and identifies the emergent themes: astrotourism as a tool for community development, cultural heritage and knowledge systems, environmental sustainability and dark-sky protection, and accessibility and inclusion. It is also explicit about the sector’s gaps, including conceptual and methodological weaknesses and the skills and capacity that practitioners themselves say they need.
