Starlight Tourist Destinations — definition and certification requirements

← Resources Library  |  Certification & networks

The official definition and the eight areas a territory must satisfy to become a Starlight Tourist Destination: very good conditions for observing the stars, protection from light pollution, accommodation and specialist infrastructure, trained staff for astronomical interpretation, and integration into the natural night-time environment on which the site is based. Where a site does not yet have these facilities, the Starlight Foundation evaluates the development project instead. The reference text for CANSTAR territories assessing their own certification path, and for understanding what ‘certified’ does and does not mean in promotional material.
